Sponge Park

Sponge Park is an 1,800 square foot street-end rain garden on the banks of the Gowanus Canal that captures and cleans stormwater runoff from 2nd Street, reducing combined sewage overflow into the Gowanus Canal. The project was completed in 2015 after many years of advocacy by GCC and project designer DLANDstudio, thanks to City Council funding and collaboration with the Department of Environmental Protection.
